As we continue to pray for the President and his entourage…for complete coverage and protection over him as he travels on to Sicily and the G7 Summit. Let everything that has been done on this trip so far culminate in what You are going to have him say at this gathering, Father. Lord, Your Champion, to turn the course of history to Your purposes for this hour.
*URGENT! We continue to take communion every hour until the President returns home next Saturday!
Our corporate declaration each hour is:
We are accepted by Lord Jesus Around the Throne of Glory in Communion with Him and One another.
We receive Your FIRE, Lord, as we stand in Your Presence to pray for our President’s protection.
We stand with each other, around the throne of Glory, around the clock, around the President!
Strategic Focus for Friday
The G7 Summit, Sicily, Italy
Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in Your sight…
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
Today’s schedule: Friday, May 26
- President Trump will attend the Group of Seven (G7) Summit in Taormina, Sicily where he will meet bilaterally with world leaders.
- There will be a meeting with Italy’s PM Paolo Gentiloni and other leaders
- The President will attend a concert performed by the La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra, followed by a dinner hosted by the Prime Minister of Italy, Paolo Gentiloni.
Background on the G7 – Hosted by Italy, May 26th – May 27th, in Taormina, Sicily. Sicily’s has a crucial role in Italy’s approach to migrants and the refugee crisis will be one of the topics on this year’s G7 agenda.
- The G7 (The Group of Seven) includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. It is an informal, top-level forum for debate that became structured over the years.
- Launched in 1975 as G6 by the world’s six major industrialized democracies, (the United States, France, Germany, Japan, Italy and the United Kingdom) who met to deal with economic concerns.
- Canada joined in 1976 (forming the G7)
- Russia joined in 1998, (forming the G8), but Russia was suspended in 2014 (…back to G7).
· At the summit meeting, the heads of government sit together and hold candid discussions on global challenges. The group’s agreements are presented in the form of a final declaration, which is not legally binding. They simply represent the leaders’ political commitment to follow through.
The current situation re: the G7– President Trump’s first foreign trip has so far gone surprisingly smoothly…but his “shoot-from-the-hip” style unsettles the G7’s plans for a “well-scripted” summit.
· US officials have submitted broad talking points for the G7. It’s a fairly unprecedented situation, because things are usually agreed on beforehand. This time there will be substantive negotiations that could last late into the night Friday into Saturday re: a final communiqué.
· Both NATO and the G7 have had an unusually high turnover among leaders, France, Italy, the U.K. and the US
· and are all sending new people to the G7 and it’s Canada’s Justin Trudeau’s 2nd time. Of the newcomers, President Trump’s arrival has been the most unsettling.
· He has torpedoed a long-standing commitment “to resist all kinds of protectionism.” Italy offered weaker language, saying they would simply commit “to strengthen the contribution of trade to our economies.”
· He prefers bilateral trade deals over multilateral deals like the North American Free Trade Agreement, but the European Union trades as a bloc and does not allow individual member countries to reach bilateral agreements. Negotiations on an EU-US trade deal, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, have stalled since his election.
· His refusal to endorse his allies’ positions on issues like trade and climate change creates headaches for the organizers. The main source of uncertainty stems from President Trump’s refusal so far to make a decision on the Paris climate accord, (enthusiastically supported by Barack Obama). The EU has urged him to stick with the 2015 agreement re: combatting global warming. A White House official confirmed that Trump had yet to make a decision but was leaning toward ditching the climate agreement. France and Germany want him to clarify whether he intends to pull out of the Paris climate agreement and Italy wants him to agree to take more Middle East refugees or help Europe cope with them.
President Trump is definitely making his mark on global affairs. He is ready to change much of what the previous administration was doing… (Praise God!) …which makes the process of drafting a communiqué more difficult than before.
· G7 places paramount importance on stability and reliability. In 2014, they ejected Russia’ Vladimir Putin from the then G8 group, after he invaded and annexed Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula.
· President Trump may be using indecision as a negotiating tactic. The US has only included general language in the G7 communiqué, ie. a commitment to “promote economic prosperity and global growth.”
· He will address unfair trade practices and other global issues, such as the role of innovation in the economy, women’s equality, and food security. Such broad strokes don’t satisfy America’s allies.
My words emerge from a heart of integrity; my lips express their knowledge with sincerity.
Let’s pray:
- that President Trump’s visit to the G7 bring light to this organization that has been so strongly influenced by darkness. Pray for every word and deed to bring light.
- that this be a moment to “reset” relations in the G7. Pray for continued wisdom and knowledge from on high for the President as he interacts with members of the G7.
- for continued health and safety for the President and those traveling with him.
- Praise God for presence of Secretary of Defense James Mattis. May ouir President’s team be knit together perfectly, by the will of God.
“Put on the full armor of God to protect yourselves from the devil and his evil schemes.
We’re not waging war against enemies of flesh and blood alone. No, this fight is against tyrants,
against authorities, against supernatural powers and demon princes that slither in the darkness of this world, and against wicked spiritual armies that lurk about in heavenly places.
And this is why you need to be head-to-toe in the full armor of God:
so you can resist during these evil days and be fully prepared to hold your ground.”
