Strategic Focus for Sunday
President Trump in Saudi Arabia – Pt 2
So, first and foremost, I urge God’s people to pray.
They should make their requests, petitions, and thanksgivings on behalf of all humanity.
Teach them to pray for kings (or anyone in high places for that matter) so that we can lead quiet, peaceful lives—reverent, godly, and holy— all of which is good and acceptable before the eyes of God our Savior who desires for everyone to be saved and know the truth.
I Tim 2:1-4
As we keep President Trump’s first overseas journey in continuous prayer, let’s consider the following points:
Today, the President will land in Saudi Arabia, the heart of Sunni Islam, for Saturday and Sunday meetings. The risks are great but the potential for good is exponentially greater!
- Pray Psalm 91 over the President and First Lady Melania Trump and ask that God “shamar” (watch over, protect and defend) them and the team accompanying them.
- Pray they be graced to walk as God’s representatives and literally redirect the course of history.
- Pray they have keen discernment and protect them from outward threats and any diplomatic compromise that would dishonor Your covenantal expression in Israel and throughout the Mideast.
President Trump’s primary mission in Saudi Arabia is to empower a coalition of Mideast nations to embrace peace and disavow radical terrorism…internally from ISIS and Al Queda; externally from Shiite Iran. While the Trump team is still in the air, Iran’s presidential election will be decided.
- This is an unprecedented hour to draw the Sunni nations of the Mideast together and propose a military and diplomatic alliance the Trump administration has called “a Mideast NATO.”
- Saudi Arabia hosts millions of Muslim pilgrims annually in Mecca and Medina. Iran wants control of Saudi Arabia’s Mecca and Medina—the two “holiest” cities of the Islamic world.
- With the Iranian elections being decided, it is stunning that President Trump is addressing this situation at such a strategic time. It’s a bold statement of the United States’ resolute commitment to our allies.
- Father, we pray and claim your promise of blessing, regional collaboration and transformation promised in Isaiah 19 for Egypt, Your people, Israel, Your inheritance, and Assyria, your handiwork. We ask that you draw all the sons and daughters of Abraham into a greater revelation of Your heart, for Your glory.
Today’s schedule:
- Bilateral meetings with Gulf Cooperation Council leaders and meetings with all Gulf states leaders.
- Afternoon lunch with leaders of more than 50 Muslim countries. The President will deliver “an inspiring, direct speech on the need to confront radical ideology and the president’s hopes for a peaceful vision of Islam.”
- President Trump participates in the inauguration of a new center to fight radicalism and promote moderation.
- Twitter forum with young people.
Understanding Islam: That which seems irreconcilable and non-sensible becomes sensible according to worldviews constructed from religious fundamentals.
- Many Muslims believe that only Muslim scholars should be quoting and commenting on the Quran. They believe that the Quran is perfect in every respect and can only exist in the “heavenly language” of Arabic. As most Muslims are not fluent in classical Arabic they must be guided by appropriate authorities.
- Muslims know that when a population is majority Muslim, they can invoke a long standing rule of the Islamic Sharia Law that no non-Muslim can have leadership over Muslims, in spite of such discrimination being against that nation’s constitution.
- There is no centralized authority in the Muslim world, so there can be disagreements among scholars as to what a correct position is. From the Islamic perspective, multiple answers to a question are all valid and correct. It’s just that each answer may serve a different purpose. That which seems illogical to the infidel non-Muslim may make perfect sense to a sincere Muslim.
- Islam is implemented according to what percentage of the population is Muslim.
- In a country where the number of Muslims is comparatively small, Muslims will often say their responsibility is to obey the laws of the country in which they live, rather than adopt agreed common practices of Sharia Law, some of which would be contrary to a secular state’s laws.
- As the number of practicing Muslims within non-Muslim states gradually increases, Muslim behavior changes to be less accepting of the majority non-Muslim opinion.
- When Mohammad was in Mecca trying to gain acceptance for his new religion, the revelations from Allah were often persuasively inclusive and inviting. After he fled to Medina, gained acceptance, social and military might and a position of power, Allah’s revelations became harsher.
- Muslim scholars have developed a Theory of Abrogation, in which earlier utterances were abrogated by later ones. (We need to know, when a Muslim is quoting the Quran, if he is quoting an early saying to gain acceptance or a later final position.)
- The charge of blasphemy and the threat of denial of religious burial rites ensures that all Muslims conform to the wishes of the Muslim religious leaders. In Islam it is more important to belong then to believe. It is not an individualized faith like contemporary Christianity. It is communal and one must conform to whatever a leader dictates.
- In Islam, what is said is dependent on timing and context. If a Muslim considers his life or his religion is under threat, according to the precedent of the Prophet and the doctrine of Taqiyya, (tack-key-yah) a Muslim is permitted to engage in deception or lying (Q.16:106).
- Another common form of deception is the claim that Islam is “a religion of peace”. It is literally a religion of surrender. Islam means “submission”.
- Allah is the all-supreme master and his followers assume the status of slaves
- to non-Muslim hearers, “peace” is an absence of conflict or war.
- For Muslims, “peace” is only achieved when Islam totally dominates the world, its adherents have “succeeded” and rule over all.
- Along the road to that objective, the means employed are always justified by the end in view.
- The words which Muslim and non-Muslim use may be the same, but the meanings differ according to one’s religious background and the values formed from that. For Christians, truth is absolute, unchangeable and non-negotiable. In a Muslim society, meaning may vary according to context. It is therefore common practice in a Muslim society not to trust anyone until they have proved trustworthy. In a Christian society, everyone is trusted till they prove untrustworthy.
O Eternal One, show us Your unfailing love; give us what we truly need: Your salvation.
