Strategic Focus for Friday
Godly UNITY between the United States and Israel – Part 2
He built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord had said,
“In Jerusalem I will put My name.”
Today’s prayer focus is Part 2 of 3 as our intercession for the May 22nd-23rd visit of President Trump to Israel. While there, he will speak at the Israel Museum and celebrate the unique history of Israel and of the Jewish people while reaffirming America’s unshakable bond with our closest ally in the Middle East.
Israel considers the entire city of Jerusalem to be its eternal capital and next week is set to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of what it calls the unification of Jerusalem. However, the international community does not recognize Israel’s annexation of east Jerusalem, which the Palestinians seek as the capital of a future independent state.
The Western Wall is revered as the holiest site where Jews can pray. Israel captured the Old City, along with the rest of east Jerusalem, in the 1967 Mideast war. Among the sites which were previously under Jordanian control were the Temple Mount (also the site of several Islamic sites – the Dome of the Rock and the Al Aksa Mosque), Golgotha and the Garden of the Tomb and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, significant to Christians.
The Jewish victory in the six-day war was short-lived, as the US and other political forces demanded that the Jews relinquish control of the Temple Mount. Although Israel is still sovereign over the area, they have ceded the daily supervision to the Waqf, an Islamic force which regularly threatens Jews and Christians attempting to pray there.
The larger issue is Israeli sovereignty over what is erroneously referred to as the West Bank, which the Arabs claim Israel is “occupying.” This includes East Jerusalem and Judea / Samaria, recovered in the Six Day War by the Israelis. This land was originally granted to Israel by the Balfour Declaration in 1917, which was reaffirmed in 1920 at the San Remo Conference in Italy. This gave Israel legitimacy as the owners of the territory. However, Great Britain, which was given a peace-keeping mandate over the area, backed off support for Israel and there was a division of the land to which Israel reluctantly agreed.
Thus says the Lord concerning all My wicked neighbors who strike at the inheritance
with which I have endowed My people Israel,
“Behold I am about to uproot them from their land and will uproot the house of Judah from among them.
Jeremiah 12:14

Let us pray:
· For the safety of President and Mrs. Trump during this trip, especially during their time in Israel. Let it be fruitful, advancing the Kingdom of God and being a blessing to the people of Israel.
· For his meeting with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, and the laying of a wreath at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial, followed by a visit to the Israel Museum in the Givat Ram neighborhood of Jerusalem.
· Let us pray for the continued stewardship by Israel of a “Jerusalem Undivided!” Jerusalem is an “international city” which is holy to three religions, and the Israelis have been good “stewards”, never usurping the sovereignty of Islam or Christianity over their holy sites. Note: Friday marks the beginning of Ramadan; let us pray for peace in Israel and the Middle Eastern region.
· For the meeting between President Trump and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Monday afternoon
· For the time the President and First Lady Melania Trump will spend with the Prime Minister and his wife Sara at a private dinner Monday evening
· For the meeting with President Abbas in Bethlehem. President Trump will convey his administration’s eagerness to facilitate an agreement that ends the conflict and urge Palestinian leaders to take steps that will hopefully help lead to peace.
· For President Trump’s visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and time of prayer at the Western Wall
“Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I am teaching you to perform,
so that you may live and go in and take possession of the land
which the Lord, the God of your fathers, is giving you.
