Jun 28, 2019 – Prayer Focus

President Trump is meeting with world leaders Friday and Saturday this week, in Osaka, where Japan is hosting its first G20 Summit. This is an annual gathering, formally known as the “Summit on Financial Markets and the World Economy”, and is the premier forum for international economic cooperation. Attending nations represent more than 80% of the global GDP gross domestic product – (a monetary measure of the market value of goods and services produced in a specific time period.)

We pray:

  • That our President will be well-rested, composed and confident, easily standing out from the crowd.
  • That he will show both respect and strength as he speaks on behalf of the US and our people.
  • That President Trump is safe and secure at every moment, and no harm will come to him by any means!

The G20 is held every year to discuss the critical issues affecting the global economy. It brings together the members of the G7 (France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy, Canada and the European Union), as well as an additional 12 nations: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, the Republic of Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and Turkey to deal with a wide range of issues facing the global community, including development, climate and energy, digital economy, and employment in addition to the world economy.

Additional participants are invited from the Netherlands, Spain, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand (representing the presidency of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations), Egypt (representing the presidency of the African Union), Chile (representing the presidency of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum), Senegal (representing the New Partnership for Africa’s Development), the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the World Trade Organization, the International Labour Organization, the Financial Stability Board, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the Asian Development Bank, and the World Health Organization.

We pray:

  • For the nations of the world to be represented by those who have their own countries’ best interests at heart… and are not controlled by globalists who want to rule the world!
  • That those who come to meet will have open hearts and minds, so that simple and sincere efforts to resolve issues will be attractive to them, and easily implemented, instead of complicated and left unresolved!

In conjunction with the G20, the Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting, one of eight ministerial meetings taking place at eight different locations throughout Japan, was held June 8-9 in Fukuoka, Japan. This meeting provided a forum for key countries in the international financial system to discuss major international economic issues and to coordinate to achieve a stable and sustainable growth of the global economy. Participants in the meeting were: Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors of the G7 countries, the additional 12 nations of the G20, the Finance Minister of the EU presidency country; the European Central Bank (ECB) President; Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors of some invited countries; and representatives of international organizations, including the IMF and World Bank.

Priorities for the G20 finance track in 2019 are:

  • Global economy and associated risks and challenges, including: surveillance on global economic risks; global imbalances; and aging and its policy implications;
  • Actions towards robust growth, including: quality infrastructure investment; resilience against natural disasters; strengthening health financing to move towards universal health care (UHC) in developing countries; and debt sustainability and transparency of low-income countries (LICs); and
  • Response to structural changes caused by innovation and globalization, including: international taxation; addressing financial market fragmentation; and opportunities and challenges associated with financial innovation.

We pray:

  • Just as we have been praying for our Federal Reserve Board and those who are part of our nation’s bank system, knowing the significant impact they can have on our nation’s economy, we now extend our prayer to cover those on the global level who’s discussions and decisions can impact the economies of the world!
  • That as the President negotiates with individual world leaders on various issues, he will continue to keep what is best for our nation in the forefront of his mind, while being willing to negotiate in good faith for what will also benefit other nations.

As it hosts this G20 Summit, the Japanese government is determined to show strong leadership in discussions to resolve issues facing the international community. Here are a few excerpts from the welcome by Japanese Prime Minister Shinto Abe:

  • Japan is determined to lead global economic growth by promoting free trade and innovation, achieving both economic growth and reduction of disparities, and contributing to the development agenda and other global issues with the SDGs at its core
  • Japan seeks to realize and promote a free and open, inclusive and sustainable, “human-centered future society.”
  • We will lead discussions on the supply of global commons for realizing global growth such as quality infrastructure and global health. As the presidency, we will exert strong leadership in discussions aimed towards resolving global issues such as climate change and ocean plastic waste.
  • We will discuss how to address the issues that arise from an aging society. We will introduce Japan’s efforts…towards achieving a society where all individuals are actively engaged.
  • We will take this opportunity to exhibit Japan’s “Omotenashi” spirit (hospitality

We pray:

  • That each of the nations’ leaders would operate with integrity and in earnest on this global stage.
  • That a sincere and meaningful dialogue would lead to Godly agreements between nations, based on righteousness and justice for all.
  • That each leader will speak only that which will help to forge fair and lasting agreements.
  • Let them come forth from this meeting with hope for the future and the expectation that it will be fulfilled.

“For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation”

Ephesians 2:14

Specific Prayer Topic for Today

Praying for the Mass Media in our Nation

The state of Ohio has now stripped Planned Parenthood funding from its annual budget and is set to increase funding for pro-life crisis pregnancy centers. A bill passed last week in the Ohio State Senate includes $5 M for over 200 crisis pregnancy centers that primarily serve low-income women. The proposal increasing the funding by five times comes after a Federal Appeals Court upheld an Ohio law that pulled funding from Planned Parenthood, which received $1.5 million in annual state funds. “This is the first budget opportunity we’ve had since then to invest additional funds into crisis pregnancy centers,” said Senate President Larry Obhof, a Republican, who expects to pass this version of the two-year, $69 billion state operating budget. The funds will help provide counseling to women with unplanned pregnancies, free ultrasounds, parenting classes and baby items. The proposed budget passed the Ohio Senate unanimously and needs to be reconciled with the Ohio House version, then signed by Gov. Mike DeWine by June 30th.

We pray:

  • As these life issues come up for consideration in each state, let those who are in alignment with God and His Word take the lead in restoring both justice and righteousness through the laws of their states!
