Preparation for Passover and for WELCOMING THE KING OF GLORY INTO ALASKA – Day 1
Worthy is the Lamb – A Messianic Passover Haggadah – Part 1
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said,
“Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
John 1:29
The eight-day Jewish holiday of Passover is celebrated in early spring, from the 15th through the 22nd of the Hebrew month of Nissan, (April 15 – 23, 2022). The first Seder will be on Friday, April 15th after nightfall, and the second Seder will be on Saturday, April 16th, again, after nightfall. Passover is observed by avoiding leaven, and highlighted by the Seder meals that include four cups of wine, eating matzah and bitter herbs, and retelling the story of the Exodus. In Hebrew, it is known as Pesach (which means “to pass over”), because God passed over the Jewish homes when killing the Egyptian firstborn on the very first Passover eve. For the next several days, we will be preparing our hearts to celebrate Passover and then to Welcome the King of Glory into Alaska. Let us together embrace and learn from this wonderful Messianic teaching on Passover! Pray.
Worthy is the Lamb
A Messianic Passover Haggadah – Part 1
Introduction to Passover
The holiday of Passover, or Pesach, begins during the full moon in the first month of the year, namely on the evening of the 15th day of Nisan. Passover is called the “feast of freedom” since it celebrates the deliverance of the Israelites from bondage in Egypt and memorializes the night when the faithful were protected by the blood of the lamb – a clear picture of the sacrifice of Yeshua the Messiah as Seh HaElohim – the “Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world” John 1:29 Pray.
The Book of Exodus recounts how the LORD sent Moses to Pharaoh to serve as the deliverer of Israel. The Pharaoh, of course, refused Moses’ appeal to set the Israelites free from their slavery, and the stage was then set for the showdown between the God of Israel and the so-called “gods” of Egypt. The final terrible plague that would descend upon the people of Egypt would be the death of the firstborn in the land. Only those families that sacrificed an unblemished male lamb and smeared its blood upon the doorposts of the house would be “passed over” (pasach) from the impending wrath from heaven. Pray.
God commanded that a few days before the Passover, each head of household should set aside a young male lamb to be examined for blemishes and to ensure its fitness as an offering. The Torah refers to this as “the” Lamb of God, as if there was only one: “You shall keep it [the Passover lamb] until the fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall slaughter him at twilight.” Exodus 12:6
During the afternoon of Nisan 14th, the lamb was slaughtered and its blood smeared on all three sides of the doorframe, top, right and left, that is, in the form of the Hebrew letter Chet (ה). This letter, signifying the number eight, is connected with the word chai, short for chayim, meaning “life.” Pray.
Some say that the letters of the Divine Name YHVH were also daubed on the doorposts: The Yod on the top beam, the Vav on the right, and the Hey on the left.
That night (Nisan 15th), the meat of the Passover was to be roasted and eaten with unleavened bread (matzah) and bitter herbs. The meal was to be eaten in haste, since the people were to be ready to begin their journey immediately after God smote the firstborn. God “passed over” those homes whose doorposts were marked with the blood of the Passover lamb. Pray.
God further commanded that Passover should be commemorated annually as a reminder of the deliverance from Egypt. Only unleavened bread is to be eaten for seven days, and the first and seventh days of Passover are to be days of holy assembly on which all work is forbidden. Pray.
The Passover Seder (service) occurs on “Erev Pesach,” the twilight of Nisan 14th, which then becomes Nisan 15th during the Seder ceremony at sundown. This agrees with the commandment given in the Torah, “In the first month, from the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread until the twenty-first day of the month at evening.” Exodus 12:18 Pray.
The Importance of Passover
All of the Biblical holidays begin with the Passover.
- On the first day of Nisan, two weeks before the Exodus, God showed Moses the “new moon” and commenced the divine calendar. Exodus 12:2.
- Two weeks later, the Israelites kept the Passover by daubing the blood of the lamb on their doorposts. At the stroke of midnight on Nisan 15, God sent the last of the ten plagues on the Egyptians, killing all their firstborn.
- On the 6th of Sivan, exactly seven weeks after the Exodus (49 days), Moses first ascended Sinai to receive the Torah (Shavuot).
- Forty days later, on the 17th of Tammuz, the tablets were broken.
- Moses then interceded for Israel for another forty days until he was called back up to Sinai on Elul 1 and received the revelation of the Name (YAHVEH).
- After this, he was given the second tablets and returned to the camp on Tishri 10, which later was called “Yom Kippur,” or the Day of Atonement.
- Later, the holiday of Sukkot (“Tabernacles”) commemorated God’s care for the people en route to the promised land.
Pray.
The Seder is called “leil shimurim”, a ” night to be guarded” in the Bible. Pray.
The Hebrew word “Torah” means “direction” or “instruction.”
The very first occurrence of the word “Torah” in Scripture refers to the faith of Abraham Genesis. 26: 5
The second occurrence refers to the law of Passover: “There shall be one law (Torah) for the native born and for the stranger who sojourns among you.” Exodus 12: 49 Pray.
A second chance for observing the holiday (on Iyar 15) was permitted for those who missed the Seder due to ritual impurity. Numbers. 9:9-12
The Ten Plagues (“eser ha-makkot”) were intended to judge Egypt and its gods.
The Number Four – the letter Dalet means ” door.” Besides the four names for Passover, there are four expressions of redemption, four cups of wine, four blessings, four foods on the seder plate, the four questions, etc.
Torah begins with the Lamb slain in the garden Genesis 3: 21 and ends with the Wedding Feast of the Lamb
Revelation. 19:7. Pray.
In Jewish tradition, Passover has four distinct names:
Chag Ha-Aviv – The Festival of Spring
“Observe the month of Abib, and keep the Passover to the Lord your God,
for in the month of Abib the Lord your God brought you out of Egypt by night.”
Deuteronomy 16:1
Chag Ha-Matzot – The Festival of Matzah
“So you shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread,
for on this same day I will have brought your armies out of the land of Egypt.
Therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as an everlasting ordinance.
In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread,
until the twenty-first day of the month at evening.
For seven days no leaven shall be found in your houses, since whoever eats what is leavened, that same person shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he is a stranger or a native of the land. You shall eat nothing leavened; in all your dwellings you shall eat unleavened bread.’”
Exodus 12:17-20
Chag Ha-Pesach – The Festival of the Paschal Lamb
“Let the children of Israel keep the Passover at its appointed time.”
Numbers 9:2
Ze’man Cheruteinu – The Festival of Freedom
We pray:
- Rejoicing in the appointed times and seasons You have set for us to commune with You in the Feasts! Pray.
The Exodus from Egypt is undoubtedly one of the most fundamental events of the Jewish people. It is commemorated with these passages every year during Passover.
“And you shall observe this thing as an ordinance for you and your sons forever.
It will come to pass when you come to the land which the Lord will give you, just as He promised,
that you shall keep this service. And it shall be, when your children say to you,
‘What do you mean by this service?’ that you shall say,
‘It is the Passover sacrifice of the Lord, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt
when He struck the Egyptians and delivered our households.’ ”
So the people bowed their heads and worshiped.
Exodus 12:24-27
“Let the children of Israel keep the Passover at its appointed time.
On the fourteenth day of this month, at twilight, you shall keep it at its appointed time.
According to all its rites and ceremonies you shall keep it.”
Numbers 9:2-3;
“Observe the month of Abib, and keep the Passover to the Lord your God,
for in the month of Abib the Lord your God brought you out of Egypt by night.”
Deuteronomy. 16:1
It is explicitly mentioned in the very first of the Ten Commandments:
“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of [bondage.”
Exodus 20:2,
and it is recalled every Sabbath day
“Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you.
Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God.
In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates,
that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you.
And remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.”
Deuteronomy 5:12-15.
We pray:
- In gratitude for the instruction You have given to us in Your Word, Lord! Help us to be faithful to keep Your Word! Pray.
The festivals of Shavuot and Sukkot likewise derive from it, the former recalling the giving of the Torah at Sinai and the latter recalling God’s care as the Exodus generation journeyed from Egypt to the Promised Land… Indeed, nearly every commandment of the Torah (including the laws of the Tabernacle and the sacrificial system) may be traced back to the story of the Exodus. Most importantly, the Exodus prefigures and exemplifies the work of redemption given through the Messiah as the great Lamb of God. Pray.
We pray:
- Lord, as we prepare our hearts to celebrate Passover and then to Welcome You as KING OF GLORY into Alaska, we pray for a deeper understanding and appreciation of all that pertains to the Passover and what You want to show us for this hour! Pray.
- We cover ourselves, our families and the members of our 24/7 family with the Blood of Jesus, the true Passover Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world! Pray.
- Bless President Trump as we intercede for him! Do Your work in his heart and mind so that he can make the crucial decisions that will facilitate his return to the White House. Pray.
- Protect our nation from all who seek to destroy it! Release Your peace in our midst, and give us Your solutions to the matters we are dealing with! Pray.
- Let the light of Christ flood the nations, drawing all men to You, Who gave Your LIFE for us! Pray.
- That our homes will get in order so that they might be places for Your HABITATION and sanctuaries for others! Pray.
- That we will joyfully release the LOVE of GOD from our hearts over Alaska and all our beloved nation. Pray.
