Strategic Focus for Tuesday
WELCOME THE KING OF GLORY INTO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!
The Battle for the Survival of the Nation! – Part 4
“For you shall go to all to whom I send you, and whatever I command you, you shall speak.
Do not be afraid of their faces, for I am with you to deliver you,” says the Lord.
Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me:
“Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.
See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms,
to root out and to pull down, to destroy and to throw down, to build and to plant.”
Jeremiah 1:7-10
When God commissioned Jeremiah and sent him to speak on His behalf, He told the young prophet not to fear those who would “fight against him, for they would not prevail. He would be with him, to deliver him. Jeremiah was destined to carry on God’s work, despite the objections of entire nations and kingdoms. Solomon echoes what God said when he wrote in Ecclesiastes 3:2-3 that there is “a time to plant, and a time to pluck what is planted…a time to break down, and a time to build up.” We, of the 24/7 family, hear that, and we are moving forward…KADIMA!…in the Spirit of the American Revolution, the Spirit of 1776. As men and women of valor, we will speak His Word openly and freely, that all may come to know His love and grace, and the spirit of fear will be crushed quickly under our feet! We pray:
- “Lord, You are good, and Your mercy endures forever!” Thank You for being with us as we hold our ground and “fight the good fight of faith” on behalf of this, our beloved nation! Pray.
Today, we continue to pray through the valuable insights offered by Os Guinness, who asserts that the “American crisis” is mainly manifested in the division of those who understand the Republic and freedom from the perspective of 1776 and the American Revolution…and those who “misunderstand” and view it from the perspective of the French Revolution and its heirs.
We pray:
- That the “Spirit of ‘76”…the Spirit of the American Revolution… be activated in the hearts of our people once again. Pray.
- That as we begin to understand the roots of the present crisis in America, we will be able to pull those roots up and plant the seeds of righteousness in their place. Pray.
As we noted yesterday, the French Revolution was expressly anti-Biblical, anti-Christian, anti-religious and anti-clerical. The hostility to religion, especially to Christianity, has been characteristic of the French. Their revolution lasted 10 years, until the little dictator, Napoleon arrived on the scene and said: “The French Revolution is over.” Like a huge volcanic explosion, the “lava” of the revolution has flowed out ever since.
Look at their three “great” ideals: liberty, equality and fraternity:
- The French Revolution did nothing for liberty, in fact it resulted in the “Reign of Terror” during which radicals took control of the revolutionary government, and arrested and executed anyone they suspected was disloyal to the revolution.
- The ideal of fraternity or brotherhood turned into what was called “revolutionary nationalism” in the 19th Century. It combined “radical nationalism and dissident socialism” such as gave rise to Benito Mussolini in Italy, the independence in Greece, and the rise of secular Zionism in Israel
- Through the work of Carl Marx and Fredrick Engels in the 19th Century, it was the third element, equality which was picked up in “revolutionary socialism”…which was behind both the Russian and the Chinese Revolutions. Pray.
Now, what we are seeing in the 21 Century is the French Revolution breaking out in terms of what is known as cultural or neo-marxism…with its central philosophy critical theory. This can be traced to Karl Marx’s critiques of the economy and society.
- Critical theory is inspired by Marx’s theory of the relationship between economic base and ideological superstructure and focuses on how power and domination operate.
- In the 1920s, an Italian Marxist, Antonio Gretzky, imprisoned under Mussolini, tried to figure out why Marxism never happened as Marx predicted. It basically shifted from the economy to culture and from the Proletariat revolution in the streets, to what he called the “hegemony”, the social, cultural, ideological, or economic influence exerted by a dominant group, “the gatekeepers”.
These ideas flowed to America in the 1960s, particularly through Herbert Marcuse, who, in 1967-1968, with Rudy Doucher, a German Marxist leader, called for a “long march” through the institutions. Martin Luther King had been assassinated in April 1968, followed by Bobby Kennedy. Then, there were the so-called police riots at the Democratic Convention. About 100 American Cities were ablaze…and yet the radicals knew that would not mean victory. They needed to be more patient and win the colleges and universities, the press and the media and the world of entertainment in Hollywood…then. they would have cultural longevity, cultural dominance in the “gatekeeper” class.
Today, a little over 50 years later, their patience proved effective…and sadly, the targeted arenas fell! Pray.
Ideas like political correctness, postmodernism, tribalism, sexual revolution…and on down the line, all the way to the rage of socialism…they all go back to the French Revolution in 1789. They have nothing to do with the American Revolution, 1776 and its Biblical roots.
The trouble today, the big difference between now and 1850 is there is no Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln addressed the evil of slavery, in the light of what he called “Better angels of the American Character.” He appealed to the Declaration of Independence.
So it is very important to see how different the ideas are which flow from the French Revolution and the ideas which flow from the American Revolution. Paul, in writing to the Galatians, says: “Who has bewitched you?” People have switched from the Gospel of grace to a gospel of works. In many ways, I am saying: “Who has bewitched America today?” It’s in the process of switching from the gospel that came from the American Revolution to the gospel that came from the French Revolution which is not good news, but bad news. Pray.
Let’s look at a few of the obvious differences:
1-There’s a difference over their roots.
- The American Revolution was rooted in scripture: Exodus, Deuteronomy, the Torah through the teachings of Calvin, Zwingli, Knox, Cromwell. It came over with the Mayflower with John Winthrop and then into New England. What was the “Lost Cause” in “England” became the winning cause in “New England”.
- The French roots are completely different, and were steeped in the writings of Jean Jacques Rousseau, Voltaire, and later thinkers from the French enlightenment. Pray.
2-Their understanding of humanity.
- The Biblical American Revolution is realistic. You have a separation of powers in the Old Testament. The idea of the American “separation of powers” and “checks, and balances” come from James Madison through John Witherspoon. Why? We are “fallen” and need to counteract ambition, egotism and so on.
- The French Revolution was “utopian”…it aimed for a state in which everything is perfect. Rousseau said that man was born free but is in chains…so just remove a chain or two… through politics, education, psychology, whatever…and humans will be happy, free and fulfilled. Nonsense! In the Russian, French and Chinese Revolutions, the utopism was disastrous. Whenever there was a gap between the ideal and the real, the gap will always be filled with force, violence and that is why utopism is the father of the worst evils and violence. Pray.
3-The whole notion of the Constitution.
- Many Americans don’t realize the American Constitution… “We the People”…comes from the Hebrew notion of Covenant. There is an incredible difference between that and the secular world who thinks in the French style…which considers the Constitution as simply law, contract, interest.
- No! Go back to Exodus and see that the Sinai Covenant is freely chosen consent …a morally binding pledge and it is a matter of reciprocal responsibility of all for all.
- So covenantal constitutionalism included the notions of freedom and trust and trustworthiness. Pray.
4- The way the two revolutions address wrongs. They both agree there are wrongs, injustices, and oppression in the world.
- In the French style (and critical theory), what you look for is the majority and the minority…the oppressors and the oppressed….some people have the power and other people are the victims of power. Then there is no truth. Following nature, remember God is dead. Truth is dead. Everything is only power. Critical theory becomes a way of exploiting victimhood in order to change the status quo to a new one.
- But of course, based only on power, they become the new problem replacing the old problem and that retaliation of wrong answered by revenge goes on and on…and you have a Corsican blood feud at large in the cultural waring in America. That’s where we are today...and quite literally, there will be no end to it with the talk of reparations and so on. Pray.
Now compare that with the biblical way of putting things right and addressing wrongs.
- Evil is addressed as evil but then the possibility of repentance which both in Hebrew, “Teshuvah” and in Greek, “Metanoya” has a radical and complete turn.
- Repentance followed by forgiveness…freely cutting off the past completely and freeing the future from the burden of the past.
- So you work toward reconciliation, in which enemies can be true friends as we see very much in the early church. Pray.
In the early church, their idea of a Pax Christi (the Peace of Christ) peacemaking under God is far better than Pax Romana (the Roman peace) which is peace through power. When one power dominates all the other powers, what you have is oppression, dictatorship and imperialism. Where Pax Christi, the peace of Christ, reigns, authentic peace is made with God through the shed Blood of Jesus Christ on the cross… a completely different understanding. Pray.
There are other differences, but as things played out in the 2016 election, the Kavanaugh hearings, the Russian Collusion case, the Mueller hearings and other things, daily evidence is before us of the clash between the American Revolution and the French Revolution, in American life and politics. Pray.
I am not American; I am European and a great admirer of this country, which has done so much for the Gospel around the world. In standing for principles like religious freedom, it would be a tragedy of historic proportions if America turns away from the groundings of true freedom and goes in a way that will be a disaster for freedom and humanity in the future.
We pray:
- That we will not bow to the French Revolution ideas, but will continue in the Biblical tradition, in the Spirit of the American Revolution, so that this nation will always stand…“and having done all else, stand”…for TRUTH, JUSTICE and the AMERICAN WAY! Pray.
- In thanksgiving for those from outside the USA who appreciate and value what God has done, is doing and will do through this nation. May their voices speak truth to our hearing, and encourage us! Pray.
- In gratitude for the letter we sent to President Trump having reached his office. May we receive an affirmative response from him soon. Pray.
- For an “appointed place” and an “appointed time” for our meeting with President Trump! Pray.
