“A CALL TO THE WALL…ONE NATION UNDER GOD”
1-712-770-4340 Code: 543555 #
We begin our hour by praising and giving thanks to God!
Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Isaiah 43:19
We sing: God Will Make A Way
God will make a way where there seems to be no way.
He works in ways we cannot see, He will make a way for me!
He will be my guide, hold me closely to His side…
With love and strength for each new day, He will make a way, He will make a way!
God will make a way where there seems to be no way.
He works in ways we cannot see, He will make a way for me!
He will be my guide, hold me closely to His side…
With love and strength for each new day, He will make a way, He will make a way!
He will make a way, He will make a way!

Strategic Focus for Tuesday
WELCOME THE KING OF GLORY INTO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Purim
“The Lord will establish you as a holy people to Himself,
just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in His ways.”
Deuteronomy 28:9
The Feast of Purim falls on the 14th of Adar, which in 2020, is today, March 10th. The observance of Purim begins with a day of fasting, “Taʿanit Esther” (The Fast of Esther) on Adar 13, preceding the actual holiday. The most distinctive aspect of this feast is the reading of the Book of Esther, also called the “Scroll of Esther” or in Hebrew, “Megillat Esther”, which recounts how God used a woman to save the Jews in Babylon from annihilation!
This book is unique in all Scripture, for the name of God is never mentioned in it…nor does it contain miracles or any prayers. Yet, as we see how God “makes a way where there is no way” for His people, and that is confirmed in numerous scriptures throughout the Bible, including our verses today from Genesis, Deuteronomy and Isaiah!
We pray:
- How can we ever say thank You for all the ways in which You have preserved and protected us, both individually and as a nation? When trials come, let us REMEMBER what You have already done, and trust that You are ready, willing and well able to “make a way” for us once again! Pray.
The story of Esther (“Hadassah”) was recorded sometime after 200 BCE by an anonymous author.
- The king, named Ahasuerus, was likely the Persian ruler Xerxes I, and Queen Vashti, his wife, had been removed from her role as his consort for refusing to obey his command. After Vashti was vanquished, the search for a new Queen began.
- Mordecai, a Jew of the tribe of Benjamin, was Esther’s / Hadassah’s cousin, as well as her adoptive father and mentor. He urged her to conceal her Jewish identity when she and all the virgins in the country were rounded up and taken into the court, to compete in what was essentially a “beauty” contest.
- She won…and became Queen Esther!
Soon after that, Mordecai overheard two of the court eunuchs plotting against the king and told Queen Esther, who informed the king. Both men were hung and the matter was recorded in the court chronicles, with Mordacai’s name!
One of the king’s ministers was Haman, a descendant of Agag, king of the Amalekites, the enemies of God’s people. Haman was full of pride and when he encountered Mordecai, who refused to bow down and “kowtow ” to him, he was outraged. He conceived a plan for the first “antisemitic pogrom” in history…one in which he would destroy all the Jews…the people of Mordecai…throughout the whole kingdom. Haman went to the king and convinced him that the Jews were rebellious and should be slaughtered. When the king consented, Haman selected the date to exterminate the Jews by casting lots…which fell on the 13th day of the month of Adar.
“The lot is cast into the lap, but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord”
Proverbs 16:33
Word of the planned massacre reached Queen Esther, who fasted and prayed for three days. Then, risking her very life, she went uninvited before the king. The king’s love for his bride was great, and he extended his scepter toward Esther, and preserved her life! When he asked what she wanted, she said she desired to prepare a banquet for him the next night, and asked that Haman be invited to attend with him!
Haman was delighted but frustrated as he was still dwelling on Mordecai’s “insolence”, so his wife suggested he build a gallows and ask the king to hang Mordecai on it the next morning. He liked that idea and had them built!
We pray:
- Lord, how often it seems that the stage is set for disaster. Whenever evil seems to be getting an “edge”, let us remember that You are on our side. We will “be calm”, trusting You to fight for us! Pray.
However, God, the UNSPOKEN of FORCE in this book, caused a restlessness to come upon the king that night, and so he had the court chronicles read aloud to him. When the story of how Mordecai had foiled an attempt on his life was retold, the king asked if Mordecai had been repaid. Learning he had not, the king summoned Haman and asked: “What should be done for someone the king wanted to honor?” Assuming the king was speaking of him, Haman told him…only to find out that the king was speaking of Mordecai. Haman was ordered to lead Mordecai, his mortal enemy, dressed in royal garments and seated on the king’s horse, through the streets of Shushan, as he proclaimed: “Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor”. He did…and was furious…every step of the way.
The next evening, as they were seated at her table, Esther spoke up, and pleaded with the king for the lives of the Jews and accused Haman of plotting the annihilation of her people. Hearing this, the king was deeply upset, and left the room. While he was gone, Haman threw himself on the couch where Esther was sitting, pleading for mercy. As the king reentered the room, he thought that Haman was attacking his Queen, and ordered that Haman be hanged.
Mordecai was placed in Haman’s position, and he and Esther, working together, obtained a royal edict allowing Jews throughout the empire to fight against their enemies on Adar 13. It was a glorious day! Per the lots Haman cast, it was called “Purim”…which means “lots”. Queen Esther’s victory in saving her people from the evil Haman was celebrated with much joy and feasting…as her people, who had been threatened with being wiped out, were able to celebrate life (and rejoice in what God did!)
We pray:
- We rejoice in God’s protection of His people, and at how many gentiles turned to God when the fear of the Jews fell on them. As the fear of God falls on this nation, may the harvest here be even greater!
“The city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad. The Jews had light and gladness, joy and honor.
And in every province and city, wherever the king’s command and decree came,
the Jews had joy and gladness, a feast and a holiday.
Then many of the people of the land became Jews, because fear of the Jews fell upon them.”
Esther 8:15-17
…confirmed in…
“Then all peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they shall be afraid of you.“
Deuteronomy 28:10
Pray.
- Like the Jews in Susa, we have been given the legal right and responsibility to fight and defend ourselves and our nation from the evil that is attacking us on every side! And fight we must…for our lives and the lives of our families depend on it!
“… the king granted the Jews who were in each and every city the right to assemble and to defend their lives,”
Esther 8:11
Pray.
- Spoken of…or left unspoken…known or unknown…God is GOD…and His people recognize His movement! As we retell this story of Esther, we pray for the emergence of the Esthers and Mordecais of our generation, those who are willing to fast and pray…and with deep humility and quiet confidence in God’s love for them, go boldly before THE KING on behalf of our people and our nation! Intercessors – ARISE!
“ For Mordecai the Jew was second to King Ahasuerus, and was great among the Jews and well-received
by the multitude of his brethren, seeking the good of his people and speaking peace to all his countrymen.”
Esther 10:3
Pray.
- For our President and First Lady, Melania. Both of them, as were Esther and Mordecai, have been called by God “for such a time as this”. No First Lady has been as lovely and as seemly as Melania Trump is, and we rejoice in God’s choice…and bless them both today. Pray.
